Obvios joins ETSI and commits to standardization

Since June 22, 2024, Obvios has been an active member of ETSI.

Obvios x ETSI

ETSI is the European Telecommunications Standards Institute responsible for developing technical standards applicable to ICT systems, applications, and services worldwide.
As a recognized European standards organization, it develops and ratifies standards.

The standardization of telecommunication systems and services is currently conducted globally within 3GPP, including seven worldwide telecommunications standards organizations, including ETSI.
3GPP conducts studies and defines standards and specifications for mobile networks.
ETSI's task is then to standardize and integrate 3GPP's specifications at the European level, considering European regulations and legislation.

By joining ETSI, Obvios is thus directly involved in developing standards, including at the 3GPP level.

The importance of standards for mobile networks

Standardizing communication services on a global scale is of utmost importance.
Without standardization, your mobile phone wouldn't be able to connect to different operators' networks.
Standards also describe protocols such as the HTTP protocol for websites or the SIP protocol for voice communication.

Similarly, a private mobile network consists of an ecosystem of different systems: device chips, the radio network, the core network, and services such as voice (VoLTE or VoNR) or critical services (MCX).
Standards are, therefore, essential to ensure interoperability between different telecommunications operators.

Obvios' participation in 3GPP

Obvios' participation aims to closely monitor the development of standards to ensure that our Dome solution complies with 3GPP versions and guarantees interoperability with the radio network and various types of devices.

By actively participating in the System Architecture group (SA2), Obvios ensures that private networks' interests are integral to the foundations of 5G standards.
Since the use of mobile networks for private networks is relatively recent, and given that 3GPP originally consisted only of telecommunications providers and public operators, Obvios' contribution is significant in making the voice of the private network community heard.

Benefits for our customers

Adhering to standards and their development process allows us to select the appropriate and necessary features for private networks
Dome's roadmap includes the latest "novelties" from current 3GPP versions.

Furthermore, supporting certain features often requires end-to-end support (from the device to radio access, through to the core network).
Thanks to Obvios' participation in 3GPP, customers can directly influence standardization to ensure their use cases are considered in the specifications.
