Pioneering the use of private 5G networks, notably during the journey of the Olympic torch, France Télévisions and Obvios are collaborating once again to provide UHD coverage of an Olympic event at the Paris 2024 Games.
From July 28, Dome will enable live broadcasts of interviews and footage from the Olympic surfing competitions in Teahupoo (Tahiti). With this innovative 100% software-based service, France Télévisions' overseas teams will have access to reliable, compact, high-speed, and ultra-secure mobile connectivity for their daily live broadcasts.
To meet its commitment to energy and environmental efficiency, the broadcasting group decided to innovate by relying on Obvios' 5G private Internet-connectivity service for capturing and broadcasting content, and on Haivision's AirPro460 modules for 5G private networks.
In practical terms, the ultra-compact design of the Dome system means it can be quickly and easily deployed on location. Camera operators will be able to move about freely at the competition site, on foot or aboard boats, without being hampered by cables between their 4K/UHD cameras and the production control room. The cameras are connected to the private 5G network via a Pro460 module from Haivision. This minimalist device revolutionizes the way production teams work.
Our private 5G connectivity service is reliable and maintains a perfect signal on the move. It eliminates the problems of coverage and saturation of public networks. That's the power of a private 5G network! Thanks to Haivision and its StreamHub and Pro460 solutions, Obvios' 5G Dome Internet-connectivity service also enables France Télévisions to produce live broadcasts with unrivalled video quality.
Through this collaboration, France Télévisions, Obvios, and Haivision are introducing new UHD broadcasting capacities that are flexible, mobile, and adaptable. With this choice, we are opting for the convenience of a compact tool that is easy to use on the move and adaptable to remote or studio-based production
Thanks to Obvios' 5G private network technology and Haivision's live video, France Télévisions is in a position to capture all the special moments from the surfing competition without the usual broadcasting constraints. We are proud and excited to be working together to bring viewers closer to the athletes than ever before, with exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of one of the most dynamic Olympic events.
